Women’s Caucus Survey Results
On the 8th of February, Women’s Caucus administered surveys to the on-campus mailboxes of every Hampshire student. The surveys asked questions in regards to campus safety, and measured students’ comfort levels on campus, their perceived quality of lighting and callboxes, and whether or not they knew about the resources provided to them (See Appendix 1 for text of survey). After more than a week, we collected the responses and analyzed the data. Read More
Nostoi Project Creating Awareness About War
Despite the United States’ longtime occupation of Iraq, the average citizen pays less and less attention to the conflict. More often, we focus on the lives of celebrities or the scandals of politicians. However, even if we do not agree with the war and the current handling of the situation overseas, we must think about the wounded, dead, and even physically healthy soldiers coming home. Read More
Hexter and Tracy Speak about Pillay, Reappointment
“Who do I think I am? I’m the president,” responded President Ralph Hexter, when a copy of the yellow fliers around campus was presented to him. The fliers begin, “Dear Ralph Hexter: Excuse me Sir, but who the hell do you think you are?” They proceed to lay out an argument against his decision not to reappoint Professor Jay Pillay, noting CCFRAP voted 5-2 in favor of him and asserting that Professor Pillay “is a much loved and respected faculty member, and an extremely active member of the Hampshire Community.” Read More

The magnitude of this situation was and still is such that students have been forced to present a body of work that represents the culmination of their undergraduate career in unacceptably cramped conditions, for lengths of time as short as two days. This situation is even worse for students working in site-specific installation and nontraditional media, as rushed installations can often seriously compromise these types of work. Read More
Theories on the State of Hampshire: The First Year Survey
Recently, Carol Trosset of Institutional Research was kind enough to share with me the results of the first year survey, administered to roughly 60% of the entering class last Fall. The data sheds some light on the preferences and demographic characteristics of first years, both on its own and by way of comparison to the averaged results from other 4-year non-sectarian colleges (included in brackets next to Hampshire percentage). In so doing, they also offer some insight in to how the college has come to be what it is today. Read More
